Personalities@Work

Tampa Workshop

The Enneagram is a system of personality that describes patterns of the strategies we use to have our needs met.

The Enneagram describes 2 dimensions — the first provides insights into what we habitually focus our attention on and what’s important to us, and the second is the strategy we use to satisfy those values.

In other words, the Enneagram helps us understand what is important to us and how we go about getting those things that are important to us.

We can use this model as a framework for leveraging strengths and a roadmap for overcoming blind spots and obstacles.

How can the Enneagram help me?

The Enneagram can be a powerful tool to help you know yourself and better understand others.

Understanding your Enneagram type goes far beyond self-discovery. By identifying your strengths and challenges, you can improve communication, problem-solving, and relationships, leading to greater success in your career.

It can help individuals understand their motivations and behaviors, as well as the motivations and behaviors of others, which can lead to more harmonious relationships. Imagine learning that your spouse has a bias towards prioritizing security and safety as a way of caring for you, rather than seeing him or her as someone just full of anxiety. Conversely, they may have a need for doing new and exciting things as a response to their fear of feeling trapped and dealing with painful emotions rather than just thinking they are flighty or irresponsible. It doesn’t make life and relationships less complex, but it certainly gives you insights that may open new pathways for relating.

You are not your personality.

The Enneagram can be used to help us better understand our own personalities, as well as to develop more self-awareness and self-acceptance. With the Enneagram, we don’t seek to identify as our personalities but rather gain insights that help us understand our patterns and automatic behaviors.

Those insights can help you make different decisions about how you adapt and respond to the world around you. We call these adaptive and maladaptive strategies. In the workshop, we’ll learn about derailers as well as accelerators (recommendations for growth).

Finally, appreciating the strengths and challenges of each type, opens us up to more compassion, both for others and for ourselves. These days, compassion seems to be in limited supply. Join us for a morning of fun, connection, and self-discovery.

In this fun and insightful workshop, we’ll explore the two dimensions of the Enneagram and how they provide insights to help us use the strategies in adaptive ways to tackle some of life’s challenges.

What we’ll do and cover in this workshop:

  • learn about the dimensions of the Enneagram

  • develop an initial hypothesis* of your type

  • engage in activities to help you explore the dimensions

  • learn about adaptive growth strategies

* There are many factors that can influence your behavior and how you respond to life events. Some people land on their type immediately and others take time to figure out their type. So we tread lightly when looking at type to give us the space to really understand why we behave the way we do and therefore, we say that we have a hypothesis as this is a journey that does not need to be rushed.
